From Passion to Impact: The Success Story of WFPA Women

Updated: Mar 27

At AGREA Farm School, we believe that success is not just about transforming individuals but also about empowering them to create a ripple effect in their communities. This belief came to life through the formation of the Women Food Producers Association (WFPA)—a remarkable group of women who graduated from our programs through the TESDA scholarships.

For many of these women, the road to empowerment was not easy. They faced multiple challenges from limited financial resources and lack of employment opportunities due to societal norms that restricted their economic growth. Many of them came from backgrounds where their families relied solely on their husbands’ incomes.

Still, their determination to break barriers and create a better future for themselves and their families pushed them forward. Through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), they gained access to Organic Agriculture Production (OAP) NCII and Agricultural Crops Production (ACP) NCII, equipping them with skills in organic agriculture and food production.

Despite their new found skills, they initially struggled with confidence and practical application. Many questioned if they could truly turn their knowledge into a sustainable livelihood. However, through mentorship, peer support, and continuous training, they learned to trust their capabilities and take bold steps toward financial independence.

They started small—planting organic vegetables, learning sustainable farming techniques, and producing their own food, building their own community garden. Over time, they realized that their skills not only provided food for their families but also opened doors to income-generating opportunities. They began selling their produce within their communities, gradually expanding their reach and forming a network of women farmer entrepreneurs.

Through perseverance and collaborative effort, the WFPA women transitioned from individual learners to leaders of change, proving that empowerment begins with self-belief and a willingness to embrace opportunities.

Equipped with technical expertise and a shared vision, the WFPA women are now driving change by supporting their households—not just financially but also through sustainable farming and healthy living. They have successfully integrated organic farming, food production, and farm-to-market initiatives, ensuring access to fresh and nutritious food. Their dedication extends beyond their families, as they actively participate in the Marinduque Expo, showcasing their products and reinforcing their role in local economic development.

What started as a means of livelihood has grown into a movement of financial independence and social impact. Understanding the importance of financial management, these women have established community savings and social funds, reinforcing the value of economic resilience. A testament to their progress, on February 20, 2025, they officially opened a BDO account, marking a significant step in their journey toward financial security.

Through strong partnerships and linkages with organizations like DSWD-SLP and other government agencies, the WFPA women continue to embrace new learning opportunities, equipping themselves with the knowledge and skills needed for a better future.

At AGREA Farm School, we couldn’t be prouder of these empowered women. Their journey is a shining example of how passion, skills, and community support can lead to meaningful and lasting change. We extend our deepest gratitude to TESDA and all our partners for their unwavering commitment to upscaling skills and fostering empowerment.

Together, we are changing the narratives of agriculture, building not just livelihoods but a resilient and thriving community.
